Among the best-preserved imperial examination halls in China. On Xuedao Jiē (学道街), which is parallel to Wumiao Jie, one block north.

Lìzhèng Gate
The main entrance to the imperial summer resort of Bìshǔ Shānzhuāng (避暑山庄; Imperial Villa). Entry tickets are sold at this gate only.

Huáguāng Lóu
For bird’s-eye views of the town’s rooftops and lanes, climb to the top of Huáguāng Lóu, just past the Fēng Shuǐ Museum and rebuilt in 1867.

Confucian Academy
This 4000-sq-metre compound has lily ponds teeming with koi and a main temple dedicated to Confucius that is supported by 48 pillars.

Gurugyam Monastery
The monastery (Gùrújiǎmù Sì) is worth a visit, primarily for the dramatic cliffside retreat of 10th- century Bön master Drenpa Namka.

Fúyù Lóu
