Chartered Bank Building
The 1905 former Chartered Bank Building is a five storey block with side turrets-domes and a vaguely Moorish touch to the design. Upper floors appear to be derelict with shrubs growing out of the upper mouldings.

Lakshimi Narasmiha
An interesting stop off along the road to the Virupaksha Temple is the 6.7m monolithic statue of the bulging-eyed Lakshimi Narasmiha in a cross-legged lotus position and topped by a hood of seven snakes.

Murlidhar Krishna Temple
A 1km walk up from the village takes you to the Murlidhar Krishna Temple, dating from about the 11th century, on the hilltop site of the ancient town of Thawa, which pre-dated Naggar by around 1000 years.

Museum of Himachal Culture & Folk Art
Opposite Hadimba Temple, the interesting Museum of Himachal Culture & Folk Art has religious relics, household objects, instruments, weapons, architectural woodcarvings and scale models of Himachal temples.

Experimenter
Experimenter is a relatively small contemporary art gallery but its exhibitions are about as cutting edge as anything youll find in Kolkata. Its tucked behind Kanishkas on Hindustan Rd just off Gariahat Rd.

Mathakuar Temple
This small shrine, set among monastery ruins, marks the spot where Buddha is said to have made his final sermon and now houses a 3m-tall blue-stone Buddha statue, thought to date from the 10th century AD.

Rose Garden
With terraced lawns and over 20,000 rose bushes of more than 2000 varieties – best between May and July – the Rose Garden is a lovely place for a stroll, and has good Ooty views from its hillside location.

Vivekanandapuram
Vivekanandapuram is an ashram 3km north of town that provides a snapshot of Indian philosophy, religion, leaders and thinkers. A pictorial and interesting exhibition of Swami Vivekanada can be found here.

Salvation Army Temple
The Salvation Army Temple has bell chimes that are endearingly complex and can be heard throughout the city, especially on a quiet Sunday morning. Its hulking white Gothic-inspired exteriors are worth a photo.

Sudha Cars Museum
The eccentric creations of auto-enthusiast K Sudhakar include cars in the shape of a cricket bat, hamburger and snooker table, among other wacky designs. And they all work. The museum is 3km west of Charminar.

Railway Museum
This heritage museum housed within Ghum station has an interesting collection of memorabilia from the bygone days of the railway. On an outer courtyard, youll find Baby Sivok, the oldest engine of the railway.

Rajat Prapat
Steps up from the snack stall by Apsara Vihar lead to a point with magnificent views of the gorge and of Rajat Prapat, the tallest of Pachmarhi’s waterfalls at 106m, which tumbles down a gully in a sheer cliff.

Nature Park
This woodland of magnificent towering deodars (cedars) is easily the nicest route between the centre and Old Manali, though not recommendable for a woman alone. South of the centre is the similar Van Vihar Park .

Dashrath Bhavan
A further 200m up the side road from Hanumangarhi, this temple is approached through a colourful entranceway. The atmosphere inside is peaceful, with musicians playing and orange-clad sadhus reading scriptures.

Garden of Fragrance
In line with Le Corbusier’s vision of a garden city, Chandigarh is dotted with verdant parks. Away from the town centre, the Garden of Fragrance has sweet-scented varieties such as jasmine and damask rose.

Shri Govindajee Mandir
The 1776-built Shri Govindajee Mandir, with two rather pronounced domes, is a neo-Vaishnavite temple with Radha and Govinda as the presiding deities. Adjacent to the temple is the Royal Palace (closed to visitors).

Upli Buruj
Upli Buruj is a 16th-century, 24m-high watchtower near the western walls of the city. An external flight of stairs leads to the top, where you’ll find two hefty cannons and good views of other monuments around town.

Pandav Caves
Just southeast of Jaistambha, you’ll find Pandav Caves , which are believed to have been carved by Buddhists as early as the 4th century. The foundations of a brick Buddhist stupa have been excavated on top of them.

Osho Teerth Gardens
The five-hectare Osho Teerth gardens are a verdant escape from urban living with giant bamboo, jogging trails, a gurgling brook and smooching couples. You don’t have to be an Osho member, they’re accessible to all.

Elephant Stables
The Elephant Stables is a grand building with domed chambers where the state elephants once resided. Your entry ticket to the Zenana Enclosure and the stables is also valid for same-day admission to the Vittala Temple.
