The Ser-Khang, the second temple to the left from the Tsuglkang, contains outstanding murals of the green Tara and the goddess Usnishavijaya.

The best swimming beach, though its proximity to the jetty is a turn-off, as are rowdy day-trippers who descend upon the beach in motorised boats.

On the east side of Patthargatti, the wholesale vegetable market of Mir Alam Mandi trades in all kinds of fresh stuff from 6.30am to 6.30pm daily.

Gir Orientation Centre
Next to the reception centre, this has an informative exhibition on the sanctuary and a small shop. It was being renovated at the time of research.

The barrel-roofed Bhima Ratha was never completed, as is evidenced by the missing colonnade on its north side. Inside is a shrine to Vishnu.

Bekal Fort
The laterite-brick Bekal Fort , built between 1645 and 1660, sits on Bekal’s rocky headland and houses a small Hindu temple and plenty of goats.

Palampur Tea Cooperative Factory
You can take a free 20-minute tour to observe the tea-making process at the Palampur Tea Cooperative, 1.5km south of the bus station on the Kangra road.
