Byams
The Byams-Pa Chen-po Lha-Khang, immediately right of the Tsuglkang, contains a 3m-high statue of the Bodhisattva Maitreya (future Buddha).

Bara Kaman
On the other side of Station Rd (MG Rd) within the Citadel are the graceful arches of Bara Kaman, the ruined mausoleum of Ali Roza.

WWI Cenotaph
In the northeastern corner of the Maidan, this chunky cenotaph formed of brown-stone blocks, commemorates Calcuttans who fell in WWI.

St Angelo Fort
The Portuguese built the St Angelo Fort in 1505 from brilliantly red laterite stone on a promontory a few kilometres south of town.

Mullik Ghat
Bathing ghat with a great sunset view of Howrah Bridge. Access from Strand Rd is from the same footbridge that leads to the flower market.

Dadasaheb Phalke Memorial
Below the Pandav Leni caves is the Dadasaheb Phalke Memorial , dedicated to the pioneering Indian movie producer of the same name.

Beach 3
Beach 3 is a secluded powdery sand and rocky cove, which is best accessed via Blue Sea restaurant . There’s also good snorkelling here.

Ramappa Cheruvu
The Kakatiyas constructed a large lake, Ramappa Cheruvu, 1km south of the Ramappa Temple, to serve as temple tank. Its popular with migrating birds.

Gandhi Hall
This gorgeous Gothic town hall, built in 1904 and originally called King Edward’s Hall, stands incongruously on MG Rd like a ghost of the Raj.

National Museum of Natural History
You can while away a peaceful hour at Delhis under-appeciated natural history museum, amid dinosaur bones and slightly time-worn stuffed animals.

Jawab
The jawab, to the east of the Taj Mahal itself, was built for symmetry purposes, matching up identically with the red-sandstone mosque to the west.

Catherine Falls
From Kotagiri, you can visit Catherine Falls, 8km south off the Mettupalayam road; the last 3km is on foot, and the falls only flow after rain.

Towards the north end of the RK Beach promenade youll find the 91m-long, Soviet-built, Indian navy submarine Kursura, now a facinating museum.
