Tagaytay

The Philippine city of Tagaytay is a popular tourist destination, especially among Manila’s weekend crowd. Surrounded by hills and mountains, forests and cool highland grasslands, the pleasant weather is a big draw.
The main attraction, though, is Tagaytay’s famous views; Taal Lake and Taal Volcano shimmer to the south while Manila Bay stretches out to the north and Laguna de Bay dominates the view to the east. One of the most scenic spots in the city is the People’s Park in the Sky on Mount Sungay, which is at the highest point in the province at 2,300 feet (709 meters) high, and from here you can look out across the volcanic lake and even see Manila in the far distance. In the park, a popular pilgrimage is to the Shrine of our Lady, Mother of Fair Love. Another popular ridge-top park is the Tagaytay Picnic Grove, where ravines run down the edge all the way to Taal Lake below. With a population of just over 60,000, Tagaytay is a great place to try fresh fish from the lake or classic Filipino dishes like barbecue chicken and adobo.

Practical Info

Tagaytay sits 34 miles (55 km) south of Manila, and the easiest way to get here is by taking one of the frequent BSC buses from Giselle’s Park Place. If driving, head out along Aguinaldo Highway, but factor in more time to get there if you’re arriving on a weekend or public holiday.
