Piazza de Ferrari

Torre di San Giovanni Watchtower
For a bird’s-eye view of Tharros, head up to the late-16th-century Torre di San Giovanni watchtower, occasionally used for exhibitions. Here you can look down on the ruins, as well as the Spiaggia di San Giovanni di Sinis, a popular beach, which extends on both sides of the tower.

Torre Branca
Giò Pontis spindly 1933 steel tower (built in two months flat for a Triennale exhibition) provides a fantastic 108m-high viewing platform over Parco Sempione. Take the lift up at sunset, or at night to watch the city lights twinkle, and lord it over the Cavalli Café crowd below.

Chiesa di San Giovenale
At the western end of town is this stout little church, constructed in the year 1000. Its Romanesque-Gothic art and frescoes from the later medieval Orvieto school are an astounding contrast. Just to the north, you can enjoy towering views of the countryside from the town walls.

Arco di Costantino
On the western side of the Colosseum, this monumental triple arch was built in AD 315 to celebrate the emperor Constantines victory over his rival Maxentius at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge (AD 312). Rising to a height of 25m, its the largest of Romes surviving triumphal arches.
