Kalalau Lookout

TIME : 2016/2/18 11:29:00

At mile marker 18, the Kalalau Lookout stands up to the ocean, sun and winds with brave, severe beauty. Hope for a clear day for views of Kalalau Valley, but know that even on a rainy day, the clouds could quickly blow away to reveal gushing waterfalls and, of course, rainbows.

Though it might be hard to imagine due to the extremity of the terrain, as late as the 1920s Kalalau Valley was home to many residents who farmed rice. The only way into the valley nowadays is via the North Shore's Kalalau Trail or by sea kayaking.
