Perched high on a hill overlooking the meandering Wailua River, well-preserved Poliʻahu Heiau, a luakini , is named after the snow goddess Poliʻahu, one of the sisters of the volcano goddess Pele. The heiau is immediately before ʻOpaekaʻa Falls Lookout, on the opposite side of the road.
