St Raphaels Catholic Church

TIME : 2016/2/18 11:44:53

Kauaʻi’s oldest Catholic church is the burial site of some of Hawaii’s first Portuguese immigrants. The original 1854 church was made of lava rock and coral mortar with walls 3ft thick – a type of construction visible in the ruins of the adjacent rectory. When the church was enlarged in 1936 it was plastered over, giving it a more typical, whitewashed appearance. Church service hours vary, but you can poke around the old cemetery during daylight.
