Russian Fort Elizabeth State Historical Park

A Russian fort in Hawaii? Yes, it’s true. Constructed in 1817 and named after the Empress of Russia, Fort Elizabeth commanded the entrance to Waimea River. The octagonal design ranges from 350ft to 450ft across. In addition to a cannon, it once harbored a Russian Orthodox chapel. Apart from impressive walls, some 20ft high, there is little else to see nowadays.
