Local resident Angustus Van Wickle, bought a 72-foot Herreshoff yacht for his wife Bessie in 1895, but having nowhere suitable to moor it, he then had to build Blithewold Mansion. The Arts & Crafts mansion sits in a peerless position on Narragansett Bay and is particularly lovely in spring, when the daffodils life the shore.
