From Artist Point a trail leads 1 mile to this viewpoint for more fabulous views of the canyon walls. The 4-mile (two-hour) round-trip hike to Ribbon Lake branches off from here.

The most central and action-packed space on the Greenbelt, 90-acre Julia Davis Park contains the Idaho State Historical Museum with well thought-out exhibits on Lewis and Clark.

The Key West Shipwreck Historeum Museum is lively, with a cast of actors taking you back to 1856, when the Isaac Allerton was destroyed by a hurricane in the Saddlebunch Keys.

Yellowstone Art Museum
Combining a collection of Western art with visiting exhibitions, the YAM is on the site of the 1916 Yellowstone County Jail. Admission is $1 on the first Saturday of the month.

Westminster Cemetery
Around the corner, Edgar Allan Poe is buried in Westminster Cemetery. If you are here around his birthday, January 19, you may see roses and cognac decorating the gravesite.

Wheeler Historic Farm
Kids can help farmhands milk cows, churn butter and feed animals at Wheeler Historic Farm , which dates from 1886. There’s also blacksmithing, quilting and hay rides in summer.

Camp beachside at Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area , which straddles both sides of the A1a. Kayaks, canoes and bicycles are available for rent at the ranger station.

The Chapin Mesa Museum has exhibits pertaining to the park. It’s a good first stop. Staff at the museum provide information on weekends when the park headquarters is closed.
