Martello Tower 1

TIME : 2016/2/19 3:59:07

Despite its small appearance, this early 19th-century defensive tower on the Plains of Abraham – one of four originally built by the British – is jam-packed with fascinating exhibits that explore the towers' engineering history and living conditions for the soldiers based here. History buffs can also seek out the nearby Martello Tower 2 and Martello Tower 4 , usually closed to the public but viewable from the outside. (In case you’re wondering, Martello Tower 3 was torn down in 1905.)

Inside the park, Martello Tower 2 opens to the public only for special events, which vary from year to year. Recent years have seen it converted into a spooky 'haunted tower' for Halloween; inquire at the Plains of Abraham Information & Reception Centre for info about current offerings. Martello Tower 4 is in the St-Jean-Baptiste neighborhood between Rue Félix-Gabriel-Marchand and Rue Philippe-Dorion.
