A Pioneering Restaurant in Halifax

One of Halifax's most progressive restaurants, Edna has an urban aesthetic, an artisanal cocktail list that would be very much at home in New York or San Francisco, and a minimalist menu that's representative of Nova Scotia. You might try the pickled radish fritters, the seared pork belly, and whatever local seafood is available (cross your fingers for oysters). The restaurant doesn't accept reservations: Expect a line out the door on weekend mornings for brunch, and come early or bring a good book if you come for dinner. The name Edna pays homage to the poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, but it also complements another Halifax restaurant—Jane, the eponymous restaurant started by the owner's mother and a pioneer in the North End.
