La Crucecita

La Crucecita

This quiet town just inland from Santa Cruz was built to support local tourism workers, but its unique shops and tasty restaurants lend it an authentic Mexican air that draws travelers away from the waters to its lively streets.
Travelers also love the specialty shopping at La Probadita, where traditional Oaxacan products like Mescal, Mexican chocolate and handmade pottery can be found—and sampled—in one central location. And the Church of the Virgin Guadalupe, which is home to a 65-foot tall mural of this religious icon, has become a well-visited destination, too. The red-tipped bell tower and crisp, white stucco exterior make this historic landmark, where travelers and locals gather to admire the famous piece of art, easy to find—even without GPS.
