Plaza de la Corregidora is dominated by the Monumento a la Corregidora, a 1910 statue of doña Josefa Ortiz bearing the flame of freedom.

Bahía Chahué
The beach here, 1km east of Santa Cruz Huatulco, is good, though the surf can be surprisingly strong. There’s a marina at its east end.

Catedral de San José
Tula’s fortress-like cathedral, just off the zócalo, was part of the 16th-century monastery of San José. Inside, its vault ribs are decorated in gold.

Arco del Carmen
The Arco del Carmen, at the southern end of the Andador Turístico on Hidalgo, dates from the late 17th century and was once the city’s gateway.

Also called Templo XII, this temple takes its popular name from the relief sculpture of a rabbit or deer skull at the foot of one of its pillars.

This museum is located in an underground space and contains displays and audiovisual presentations devoted to the history of mining in Durango.

The magical Sinfonía del Mar is an outdoor stepped plaza that occasionally hosts concerts, but mainly serves as an amazing place to view sunsets.

This is a large, well-organized museum chronicling the peninsula’s history (in Spanish) from prehistory to the revolution of 1910 and its aftermath.

El Chorro
El Chorro was the spring where San Miguel was founded. Today it gushes out of a fountain built in 1960, and there are public washing tubs here.

Tecates main church, the Iglesia Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is not on the main plaza, unlike in most Mexican cities, but is situated further south.

Museo de la Basílica de Guadalupe
The Museo de la Basílica de Guadalupe, at the rear of the Antigua Basílica, has a fine collection of colonial art interpreting the miraculous vision.
