Pura Tegalwangi beach: Another secret spot in Bali

tegalwangiAdding to the ever growing list of ‘secret beaches’ we can find in Bali is the secluded white sand beach at Pura Tegalwangi, on the Bukit peninsula. You’ve probably never heard of that temple and it’s certainly not one of the most famous in Bali. The great thing about the beach, which is adjacent to the temple, is that tourists don’t go there. This is for a couple of reasons including 1) they don’t know its there, 2) there are plenty of other beaches closer to Kuta. So if you are looking for a quiet, unspoilt beach with no one else around the beach at Pura Tegalwangi might work for you.

Distance from Kuta:
Pura Tegalwangi is a 15 minutes trip from Kuta.

How to get there:
From Kuta take the Bypass towards Nusa Dua, take the Uluwatu turnoff in Jimbaran. Drive towards the Intercontinental hotel along Jl. Raya Uluwatu, taking the right hand turn just after it (Jl. Bukit Permai). Follow this along the coast to the left, past the Four Seasons (Jl. Karang Mas), looking out for the right hand turn indicating Pura Tegalwangi. When you reach the temple you’ll come to a large parking area. The temple overlooks the cliff to the NW. About 50 meters before the temple to the left side is the beach.

Nearest food and drinks:
The nearest food and drinks are to be found back at Jl. Raya Uluwatu in Jimbaran (locals snacks and stalls). You will also find Warungs on the beach at Muaya Beach next to the Four Seasons. There is Circle K close to Jl. Raya Uluwatu at the main street leading to the Bypass.

Nearest accommodation:
The Ritz Carlton is located 500 meters to the SW. Back towards Jimbaran are several villas including Villa Rini, Villa Haligen, Villa Arya. You also have the Mimpi Resort, the Four Seasons and the Intercontinental.

Access:
Paved roads lead all the way to the parking area at Pura Tegalwangi. Cars and motorbikes will be able to access this area no worries. The beach is a 1 minute hike down.

Petrol:
Many petrol racks down on Jl Raya Uluwatu in Jimbaran. Petrol station on the Bypass heading back to Kuta.

Who is this beach good for?
People who want an unspoilt Balinese beach, with no other tourists.

Who is this beach not good for?
Surfers, people wanting to swim safely in the presence of lifeguards, people wanting creature comforts.

Tips:
As always be careful when swimming. As the beach is close to a temple, remember to wear a bathing suit and do not urinate is sight of the temple.
