Many Japanese ryokan are elite, expensive hotels that do not accept foreign guests, but the Kaneyoshi Ryokan in Osaka heartily welcomes all visitors, including families with small children. The rooms are traditional, tatami-floored Japanese style with small toilet rooms. The building is older and the baths are classic, hot soaking pools on the top floor. They are segregated with a section for men and one for women, with amenities such as shampoo, towels, and razors provided. It is an excellent way to unwind after a long day of sightseeing.

The staff is elderly but extremely helpful, and usually volunteers information, timetables, and maps for sightseeing and finding your next destination in the country. Like most ryokan, there is a curfew at midnight. The location is near the red-light district, so can be noisy at night, but the area is also full of shops and restaurants.
