Try the local specialty of Nikko, yuba, at the Yubatei Masudaya Restaurant. It is about a 10 minute walk along the main road from the train stations in the direction of Toshogu Shrine, in a white building with black wood trim on the left hand side of the road. There are several forms of the yuba tofu, foreigners often enjoy it deep fried. Many of the dishes are vegetarian to reflect the traditional Buddhist diet, but another delicious option is masu no shioyaki, or freshwater trout grilled in salt.
