Atlantic City Shopping Guide – where and what to shop and buy

The East Coast’s gaming capital has always been about fun, from its heyday as a seaside resort to its current spot as a glitzy slot machine-filled center for gambling, nightlife, and decadence. Shopping in Atlantic City is no different. From glamorous high-end malls to outlet stores offering designer discounts, there’s plenty of opportunity to splash the cash. New Jersey locals love to hit Atlantic City’s shops, as clothing and shoes are tax-free here.Downtown

Atlantic City’s buzzing central district is awash with shopping opportunities. It’s also got to be one of the few places where you can head to a designer outlet mall right in the heart of the city center. Brimming with swanky stores selling big brand names at discounted prices, you’re bound to bag a bargain if you shop here. If you’re a fan of rummaging through sale racks, this is definitely the place for you, as you can seek out low cost designer labels. The outlets are especially good value when you take into account Atlantic City’s low sales tax.

State Marina

Over towards Atlantic City’s State Marina it’s a much more grown-up affair. The old school seaside fun atmosphere is replaced by swanky yachts, vacationing couples, and well to do locals. Shopping around here has the same vibe, where you can browse specialist wine stores and designer boutiques in the big casino resorts. You might not find the same array of malls overflowing with brands as in downtown, but this neighborhood makes up for it in quality. Outdoor sports fans should head to Gardner's Basin where you’ll can browse and bag some antiques, local art, and surfing gear.

Egg Harbor Township

If you’re in need of a down-to-earth shopping experience, without the frills and glitz of Atlantic City itself, head out of the city to Egg Harbor Township, just an 18-minute drive from Downtown. The mall here is a much more traditional type, with plenty of well-known stores selling clothes and footwear, home wares, and jewelry in a relaxed everyday setting. This cozy community is also very conveniently located for travelers, being just a 15-minute drive away from Atlantic City International Airport. This makes it a great place for one last splurge before heading home.
