Takthog Gompa, 5km from Sakti, is the region’s only Nyingmapa monastery. The name Takthog (‘stone roof’) refers to a pair of small but highly revered cave-shrines in which the great 8th-century sage Padmasambhava supposedly meditated. These smoke-blackened prayer chambers are at the top of the monastery’s attractive older section.
