This forest was once the estate of Edith Morton Chase. You can visit her grand Tudor-style summer home (free guided tours are available between June and October, but hours vary, so call ahead), complete with its original furnishings. Then spread a blanket on the lawn and have a picnic while enjoying the view at 1230ft. Topsmead is 2 miles east of Litchfield.
