This fine, camera-shaped museum is just east of Westwood, in the skyscraper village known as Century City. Parking is $3.50 from Wednesday to Friday, $1 on Saturday and Sunday or after 4:30pm daily.

Airlie Gardens
In spring, wander past thousands of bright azaleas at this 67-acre wonderland, also home to bewitching formal flower beds, seasonal gardens, pine trees, lakes and trails. The Airlie Oak dates to 1545.

16th Street Mall & LoDo
The 16th Street Mall, a pedestrian-only strip of downtown, is lined with shops, restaurants and bars. The funkier LoDo , around Larimer Sq, is the best place to have a drink or browse the boutiques.

Union Station Plaza
This grassy space with a large fountain cascade spreads in front of Union Station. The area is also known as Columbus Circle, since the fountain is a monument to explorer Christopher Columbus.

Umatilla County Historical Museum
The worthwhile Umatilla County Historical Museum is in Pendletons old railroad station. There are pioneer exhibits and Native American artifacts; check out the caboose and one-room schoolhouse.

Brand new and architecturally striking, this brick, steel, concrete and glass longhouse delivers your modern art fix. With groovy, creative sitting areas inside and out, and fun rotating exhibitions.

Seacoast Science Center
Undersea videos, huge aquariums and a hands-on touch tank are the highlights of this family favorite. The center hosts lots of special activities, such as trail walks, lighthouse tours and concerts.

Kukuiʻula Small Boat Harbor

Magnolia Petroleum Company Building
The red neon Pegasus became a symbol of Dallas when it first flew atop this building in 1934. It disappeared for decades before re-emerging atop the newly renovated building, now a hotel, in 1999.

William Randolph Hearst Memorial State Beach
Across from Hearst Castle, this bayfront beach is a pleasantly sandy stretch punctuated by rock outcroppings, kelp forests, a wooden pier (fishing permitted) and picnic areas with barbecue grills.

Selma Interpretive Center
This National Park Service museum has a small but solid exhibition space dedicated to explaining the history of Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights movement that arose to battle that inequitable system.

Sea Island offer tracts of coastal wilderness amid a tidewater estuary, but access is limited to guests of its three luxury hotels unless you make dining reservations at the Cloisters Georgian Room.
