A fun vantage to view Tokyo is by water, and one of the most popular ways to do so in on the Sumida River Cruise. You can enjoy a modern boat ride along the historic waterway, seeing famous sites such as the Asahi Beer Building, Ryogoku sumo center, and the recently constructed Skytree tower. The ride takes approximately 45 minutes and there are audio tapes explaining the sites in English.

One end of the ride is Asakusa, a bustling historic entertainment district with the famous Sensoji Temple. The other end is Hinode Pier, or you can debark at Hama Rikkyu garden. You can take the boat in either direction, so plan your trip based on which order you want to see the different parts of town.
