The following is the official Thai government list of public and bank holidays in Thailand for 2012. Where the actual date of the holiday falls on a weekend, a substitute day has been granted on the Monday as a day’s holiday. Please note that although this is the official list, some companies and businesses in Thailand may also close for additional local or regional celebrations, for example the Chinese Lunar New Year.

January 1 (Sunday) – New Year’s Day
January 2 (Monday) – substitution day for New Year’s Eve
*January 3, 2012 (Tuesday) – substitution day holiday New Year’s Day
(*at time of writing still trying to confirm this; January 3 had originally been scheduled as a public holiday but this may have changed! Now confirmed as public holiday!)

March 7 (Wednesday) – Makha Bucha Day

April
April 6 (Friday) – Chakri Day
April 9 (Monday) – added as public holiday for the funeral of HRH Princess Bejaratana
April 13-15 (Friday-Sunday) – Songkran Festival
April 16 (Monday) – substitution day for Songkran

May 1 (Tuesday) – Labour Day
May 5 (Saturday) – Coronation Day
May 7 (Monday) – substitution day for Coronation Day

June 4 (Monday) – Visakha Bucha Day

August
August 2 (Thursday) – Asahna Bucha Day
August 12 (Sunday) – H.M. Queen’s Birthday
August 13 (Monday) – substitution day for H.M. Queen’s Birthday

October 23 (Tuesday) – Chulalongkorn Day (Rama V Day)

December 5 (Wednesday)- H.M. King’s Birthday
December 10 (Monday) – Constitution Day
